Of course the cold temperatures are back and with them more snow. It’s been snowing since yesterday on and off. I like big snow flakes dancing in the sun.

Mali Haus
Today I went to a little museum in my home town dedicated to the West African nation of Mali. The former elementary school principal of my home town has been leading a help organization for Mali for many years and in 2008 they opened the Mali Haus here in Germany. They show artifacts from Mali and photos from past trips and their accomplished projects. They’ve helped built schools and small hospitals in some rural areas around Mali’s capital Bamako. Mali is one of the poorest nations in Africa, but has a rich culture of dance and music. His wife showed me around the Mali Haus and spoke about her amazing experiences traveling through the country. Her husband is there right now for the next 2 weeks with an eye doctor and his team. They help people who are in need. I hope to talk to him when he gets back. I’d like to go on an expedition through Mali soon to photograph people and the desert landscape, see these projects and learn more about their culture and music in West Africa. A friend of mine is in Mali as well and it would be exciting to meet with him, but he may be on his way to Ethiopia soon. We’ll see. For now I’m grateful to have an experienced Mali resource so close to me.

Germany :: A Snow Hike
It’s been snowing so much for the past few days without end. So much snow all around me. Time to take another hike. I love the white all around me, though it’s cold. My legs get stuck in the snow. In some areas the snow is pretty high, but some good exercise for a change. I’m sweating by the time I reach my sisters house.

A new beginning :: Winter + Snow in Germany
It has been cold all over Germany and lots of snow fell over the past weekend. Here are some photos of the winter landscape of the hills in the Hunsrück region near the Mosel river.

New York New York
Chilly but sunny - the streets of NYC are busy as always. For the last 6 days I roamed the streets of New York. Haven’t been to the big apple in a while and never visited any of the art museums before - about time to take a look. My visits included the Guggenheim, MoMA, the National Design Museum, the Whitney, ICP and the New Museum. NYC has so many more museums, but I realized I need much more time to see them all. I walked along some parts of Central Park, Times Square, Brooklyn, 5th Ave and Chinatown to feel the energy of the city with all its people and art again. I loved spending time in one of the most exciting cities I know and enjoyed the accessible public transportation. I’ll be back soon.
